Faux Wood

A look at the world of faux fur, wood, and more.

Adding faux wood to your home can be a great way to really get that fantastic look that wood provides, without the cost associated with using authentic hardwoods.  There are really only so many different types of authentic wood available, and the same is true of different wood styles.  For that reason, most hardwoods are very expensive, as they are in high demand and there just isn’t always enough to go around.  But by purchasing faux wood for things like blinds or shutters, or virtually anything else around your home for that matter, you can ensure that you don’t have to worry about an extreme price tag, and instead you can enjoy fantastic wooden structures that are indistinguishable from the real thing.

The most important thing when it comes to faux wood, is finding a type that you really enjoy.  This type of material can be made from anything from plastics, to vinyl, but you can also find engineered wood particles, that are meant to mimic the look of a higher quality type.  All are more lightweight and convenient solutions, and you’ll find that pretty much every single style is very affordable.  It’s just a matter of picking a type that you like the best, and that you feel will add the most to your home.

You’ll find that materials like faux wood plastics and vinyl can be great for most surfaces, but they are also fairly easy to spot.  From a distance, you’ll find that a vinyl surface can look exactly like wood, well enough to fool literally anyone.  But when you touch or pick up the wood, it becomes evident that it’s fake.  This is because they don’t have the same weight, and are actually quite light, so the surface just won’t feel like an authentic wood.  You can usually counteract this by purchasing an engineered wood instead.  Usually they are made from particles or segments of all different types of wood that are combined using special machinery.  Then they are covered with a fake print, so that you can’t tell whether the wood is authentic or fake.  Plus they still have weight, so they really will feel real.

Of course, you also want to think about just what type of  faux wood products you want to add to your home. You’ll find that you can purchase anything from fake shelves, blinds, shutters, beams, floors, and practically anything else that you can think of.  Plus you’ll find that faux wood of any kind is cheaper, and much easier to handle than the real thing.  In fact, vinyl will last longer, especially when used outside, as it’s meant to handle literally any weather condition without breaking down under the pressure.

Buying the ideal faux wood objects also isn’t difficult, as you can find exactly what you need from a variety of different resources.  Stores like Sears or Walmart will have most of the products that you’re looking to place inside your home.  But you can also go to hardware retailers like Home Depot, to find other things like fences that are made from authentic faux wood, so that you can ensure they’re guaranteed to last.
